A Final Curtain Call
You may have noticed we have been rather quiet lately. The reason for that is we have taken our final curtain call.
It is with heavy hearts and immense gratitude that the Board and Directors of the Somers Village Players announce the official closure of our organization. This decision does not come easily by any means. After many heartfelt discussions, we have determined that dwindling membership and rising costs have made it increasingly difficult to continue our productions and maintain the vibrant spirit that has defined the Somers Village Players for decades.
While this chapter comes to a close, we reflect with incredible pride and gratitude on the wonderful journey we’ve shared with all of you.
For 55 years, the Somers Village Players have had the honor of producing plays, musicals, and dinner theater that brought joy, laughter, and meaningful storytelling to our community. From the front of house to backstage, from the spotlight to the audience seats, every moment was made possible because of you: our dedicated patrons, volunteers, actors, directors, and supporters. From the days of staging productions in our workshop, at town hall, up at Camp Aya Po, with Joanna’s Banquet Hall, and most recently at the Knights of Columbus Hall, it was our pleasure to stage musicals, drama, and comedies to bring thought, tears, and laughter to all of you. Thank you for standing by us, believing in the power of community theater, and for sharing this passion with us.
As we wind down operations, we want to ensure that our resources continue to serve the arts and the town we love. We plan to present our existing storage building to the Town of Somers, thus preserving its future use and honoring our commitment to the community. In keeping with our tradition of supporting the next generation, our remaining monetary assets will be placed in a trust to continue funding scholarships for students in the Town of Somers. Over the decades, we have been deeply honored to donate tens of thousands of dollars to local students, and we are proud that this legacy will live on and continue to support dreams and inspire futures.
While we are saying goodbye to our stage, we do so with full hearts and many cherished memories. Thank you for making the Somers Village Players a beloved part of your community.
Yours to the final curtain and beyond,
The Somers Village Players
